Ree Drummond is famous for her easy, cowboy-approved comfort food. Evident in her 80+ potato dishes and 75 pasta recipes on FoodNetwork.com, the Pioneer Woman isn’t afraid of carbs. And we, along with the rest of America, love her for it. But for her sixth(!!!) cookbook (called The New Frontier), she’s taking a lighter approach to her normally indulgent crowd-friendly fare.
“Last summer, I kind of dove into the keto [diet] world and enjoyed it,” Ree shared in an interview with People. But it was more of an “exercise”—Ree isn’t living the keto lifestyle anymore. And The New Frontier isn’t a keto cookbook. According to the celeb chef, it’s not even a low-carb cookbook.
Instead, you’ll find “suggestions for how to lighten up an otherwise really carb-heavy dish,” alongside “carbolicious” treats to enjoy in moderation. The sneak peek of the donuts that she posted on Instagram (below) are mini, for example. “My low-carb cookbook will be out October 22! And what’s super cool is that my high-carb cookbook will be out the exact same day!” she jokes.
The balance is true to Ree’s personal eating philosophy. “Some days I’m like, ‘You know what? I’m going to use spaghetti squash instead of pasta,’ and the next day I eat, like, a big lasagna roll up with creamy shrimp scampi.”
Us too, Ree. Us too.
